TUCSON, Ariz.--- Forty-third-ranked junior Lauren Marker had mixed results in her first day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Marker, who is playing in the qualifying singles bracket of 64, won her first match of the day at 10:45 a.m. against No. 38 Kourtney Keegan from the University of Florida by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Marker's next match was a loss to Duke freshman Ellyse Hamlin in the round of 32 by a score of 4-6, 4-6.
“Lauren played a very good match this morning despite some early jitters,” head coach Vicky Maes said. “She found her stride in the match and didn't look back. It was a different story in the afternoon, where she battled someone I felt she should beat. She just couldn't find her groove and made too many mistakes. It's an unfortunate loss because I felt Lauren had been playing very well these last few weeks. Either way, it is very early in the year and we can use these experiences, good and bad, to get better in the future.”
These are the first fall matches of Marker's 2015-16 season. She ended her sophomore year with a record of 23-10, going 16-5 in dual play (both team bests) which was enough to have her ranked at 43rd heading into this fall season.
