TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona men's and women's cross country teams are set to depart to Louisville, Ky. this weekend to take part in the Pre-NCAA National Invitational meet on Saturday, Oct. 17th.
“It's going to be one of those bigger races and it looks like we are actually going to be in one of the slower races,” head cross country coach James Li said. “I think it will be a great opportunity for our team to go there and do well. If we want to be in the faster race we have to prove it. We had a small race last week and a couple weeks of training leading up to this race.”
The meet will be hosted by the University of Louisville and the Louisville Sports Commission and will take place at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. The men will compete in the unseeded 8K race at 7:45 a.m. MST and the women will run the unseeded 6K race at 8:30 a.m. MST
Competing for the men this Saturday are Matthew Beer, Collins Kibet, Patrick Leary, Jonas Legernes, Daniom Tecle, Seamus White and Sam Willis.
Molly Callahan, Kayla Ferron, McKenna Gaffney, Claire Green, Kate Penney, Kirsten Vergara, and Addi Zerrenner will be representing the Wildcats for the women's squad.
The men took first place last weekend when they hosted the U of A Cross Country Twilight. Kibet led the way last time out with a second-place finish and a time of 20:52 in a four-mile race. The women also took first place last week with Callahan leading the way. She finished in first place in a three-mile race clocking in at 17:52. Zerrenner, Green and Penney finished in the top four as well.
