Track & Field Releases 2016 Outdoor Schedule

TUCSON, Ariz. The University of Arizona men's and women's Track & Field program released their 2016 outdoor schedule on Thursday. The Wildcats are set to compete in 11 meets, not including the NCAA Championships.

“I'm very excited about the upcoming 2016 schedule,” head coach Fred Harvey said. “I think it gives us enough diversity in terms of what we want to do with developing our young distance runners as our multi-event athletes who will be a big part of what we are doing this year. Having a few more meets at home is pretty exciting, especially with getting a new surface in. One meet that I'm very excited about is the Tuesday night special at UCLA where it will be a live spot for Tuesday night track & field. That is something that we want to do, get a prime spot for track & field throughout the week.”

The season kicks off here in Tucson on Mar. 18 as Arizona hosts the Willie Williams Classic. The following Tuesday, on Mar. 22, is the Jim Bush Collegiate that UCLA will host at Drake Stadium.

That weekend, the Wildcats travel to Tempe, Ariz. to take part in the Pac-12 vs. Big 10 Invitational on Mar. 25. On Apr. 1, Arizona ventures north to Palo Alto, Calif. to compete in the Stanford Invitational.

On Apr. 7, the Wildcats host their second home meet of the season with the Jim Click Shootout. The next weekend, the Wildcats will be competing in two different meets as some will be at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. on Apr. 14 while the rest will be in Baton Rouge, La. For the LSU Alumni Gold Classic on Apr. 16.

There will be two more meets the weekend after that as half the squad will be in La Jolla, Calif. for the Triton Invitational and the other half will be in Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays on Apr. 22.

The last home meet of the season will be on Apr. 30 as they host the Dual in the Desert. The Pac-12 Multis are set for May 7 and the Pac-12 Championships are set for May 14 in Seattle, Wash.

The Tucson Elite Classic is scheduled for May 19 and 21 in Tucson, Ariz., where some current and former Wildcats compete in select events along with some of the best athletes in the country.

Finally, the season will come to a close with the first round of the NCAA Championships in Lawerence, Kan. On May 26 and the finals of the NCAA Championships in Tracktown USA in Eugene, Ore. on June 8.
