SAN DIEGO, Calif.--- The fifth seeded doubles team of senior Shayne Austin and No. 43 junior Lauren Marker continued their run on Saturday at the ITA Regional Tournament by beating Fullerton's Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela in the round of 16 by a score of 8-2. Marker and Austin weren't able to secure a spot in the semi-finals, dropping a hard fought match to Santa Barbara's Lou Adler and Amanda Atansson. This is the second straight year Marker has made it to the quarterfinals.
“Overall, it was a good weekend for our team,” head coach Vicky Maes said. “We did a nice job implementing what we have been focusing on in practice. Obviously, we still have a ways to go, but I feel strongly we are taking steps in the right direction. I'm looking forward to two good weeks of practice before hitting the road again.”
Marker and Austin's loss concludes what was a very successful tournament for the Wildcats who had no first round eliminations and ended with a 10-6 overall record.
Arizona will have a few weeks to practice at home before heading back to California to compete in the Jack Kramer Invitational starting Thursday Nov. 5th.
