TUCSON, Ariz. ??The Arizona swimming and diving team opens up the 2015-16 season at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on Friday, October 23rd at 2:00 p.m. MST. The women's team will compete against UNLV and Washington State going head-to-head with each team. Meanwhile, the men's team will face UNLV in a dual meet.
The women will look to build off of a successful year from the 2014-15 season after finishing 15th at the NCAA Championships and fourth at the Pac-12 Championships. Swimmer Bonnie Brandon leads the women earning two All-America honors and five All-America honorable mentions last season. Brandon finished the season setting a new school record in the 1,650 free (15:48.35).
This will also be the first collegiate meet for the women's incoming freshmen, ranked as the third recruiting class by SwimSwam. The freshmen class includes top-20 recruits Taylor Garcia, Katrina Konopka and Daniela Georges.
The Arizona men's team is coming off of a 13th-place finish at NCAAs after finishing fourth at the Pac-12 Championships in 2014-15. Diver Rafael Quintero ended the season with a NCAA Zone E Diving Championship in the platform. Quintero also earned two All-America honors, in the platform and 1-meter dive.
In total, the Wildcats earned numerous honors from the NCAA Championships. The women had nine swimmers and divers earn 23 All-American honors, and the men had eight swimmers and divers earn 23 All-American honors, giving the Wildcats 17 athletes earning 46 All-American honors.
The UNLV men's team was the 2015 WAC Conference Champions while the women took fifth at the Mountain West Championships. The Washington State women's team ended the 2014-15 winning six-straight dual meets and finishing eighth at the Pac-12 Championships.?
