TUCSON, Ariz. ? Head coach Tabitha Yim announced the addition of Randi Acosta, formerly Liljenquist, to the University of Arizona coaching staff on October 19, 2015.?
“We are thrilled to have Randi working with our team this season,” said Yim. “Randi had an incredible career as a GymCat athlete and coach, and we feel extremely lucky to have her back in the gym. She is an exceptional choreographer, coach, and person, and she will be a wonderful addition to the GymCat staff.”?
A 2003 graduate from the University of Arizona, Acosta is one of the program's most decorated GymCats. A two-time All-American and four-time All-Conference, Acosta earned a Pac-10 Floor title and was named Regional Gymnast of the Year in 2002. She currently holds the school record in the all-around with a 39.775 and is the only GymCat to earn perfect 10.0 marks on both the balance beam and floor exercise. Acosta is also an Arizona Ring of Honor inductee.?
“When Tabitha asked me to be a volunteer Assistant I was very excited,” said Acosta. “I am so grateful for all the opportunities I received as an athlete and coach at Arizona.? I hold so many great memories in my heart and to be able to contribute to the team means so much.”
Acosta served as the assistant coach under former head coach, Bill Ryden, for three years, and was named South Central Region Coach of the Year in 2012.
“This coaching staff truly respects the history of the Arizona Gymnastics program,” said Acosta. “They believe in the traditions that mean so much to the past and current gymnasts and words cannot express how honored and excited I am to continue to help the Gymcats fulfill their dreams. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to see the team give it their all this season!”?
