TUCSON, Ariz. – Although the official Sand Volleyball season does not start until March of 2016 the Sand Cats will head to Huntington Beach, Calif. as they participate in the Endless Summer Open on Saturday, October 24. The Arizona sand volleyball team will be competing against other colleges, universities and open level players.

The Wildcats will get their first taste of live competition after taking part in individual and team workouts over the past few weeks. 

“I think our team is coming to realize what it really takes from a preparation and recovery standpoint, be it in the sand or weight room, every day to get better at this level; and that needs to continue if we want to achieve our goals,” said head coach Steve Walker

Arizona welcomes back Madison and McKenna Witt, Hailey Devlin, Olivia Macdonald and a talented young crop of newcomers as Arizona prepares to embark on its first season as an NCAA recognized sport. This will be the freshmen's first time competing on the sand as this is the first event of the unofficial season.

“We commit just over 40 days to full team practice in the fall semester and it's one of the segments I most look forward to during the academic year,” said Walker. “It's a chance for our newcomers to familiarize themselves with the techniques, tactics and overall speed of play that we try and use here at UA.”

The Sand Cats head to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete in the Spike & Serve Pairs Invitational on November 27-28, which is another non-regular season event.
