Many of you know Arizona State University recently instituted a mandatory student fee to help offset the funding ASU was spending to subsidize athletics. It's meant to let tuition funds flow back to academic and student support programs.
We are extremely excited to announce that Dr. David Lapan, his wife Krista, and their children Lisa, Dana, Kasey, Katie, Tyler, Zach and Kobie, in conjunction with the Lapan Charitable Trust and the Lapan Memorial Sunshine Fund, have committed a $1 million gift to our Hillenbrand Softball renovation project.
The McKale renovation is moving along rapidly in hopes of meeting our quick deadlines on the project. All of the old seats are scheduled to be removed by Saturday.
The deadline to renew football season tickets and Wildcat Club donations (including men's basketball priority seating) is here. Thank you to everyone who has already renewed for 2014-15, and there are a lot of you. As of Monday, our renewal percentage for football season tickets was 73 percent, which is up from 54 percent at this time last year. That shows our loyal fans are excited and enthusiastic about the upcoming year. The deadline is tomorrow, May 1, by 5 p.m.
We held our annual C.A.T.S. Awards banquet earlier this week, which is one of my favorite events of the year. It's a celebration of competitive success, academics and community service, which we feel are extremely important. We urge our student-athletes to be involved in a number of different initiatives while on campus, and this event gives us an opportunity to recognize their dedication and commitment in those areas.
