TUCSON, Ariz.--Junior college transfer Allison Andrade hit her first
career home run and the grand slam in the bottom of the first helped propel
No. 4-ranked Arizona to a 10-2 victory over No. 5 Southern Mississippi in
the final game of the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic.
USM (0-4) All-American pitcher Courtney Blades gave up a single and
walked
four batters in the inning before Andrade's shot to left field. She left
the game in the second after walking two more hitters to give her 19 walks
in four appearances.
The Cats took a 9-0 lead in the third when Andrade walked and was
tripled
in by Lisha Ribellia, who scored on an RBI single by Katie Swan. Ribellia
also tripled in the fifth and was driven in by Nicole Giordano for the
mercy- rule eight run differential to end the game.
Lady Eagle Amy Berman hit a two-run home run off winner Jennie Finch
in
the top of the fourth. Finch allowed three hits, with one strikeouts and
one walk.
Arizona (2-1) plays an exhibition game against Pima Community College
at 3
p.m. Wednesday, then travels to Phoenix for six games in Arizona State's
Fiesta Bowl Classic tournament Friday through Sunday.
