TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona women's soccer team saw its two-match win streak snapped on Friday evening, as its bid to upend No. 10 Pepperdine fell short in a 2-1 loss at the Sun Devil Desert Classic.
The Waves improved to 5-1 by collecting a pair of first-half goals. Katie Gallanes scored the game's first goal in fifth minute of the game, before Anisa Guajardo added what proved to be the game-winner in the 30th-minute for her fourth goal of the season.
The Wildcats (2-3) kept the match tight in the second half, but were unable to get on the scoreboard until the final minute of the game. That was when Julia Glanz took a pass from Ana-Maria Montoyato score her first goal of the season and spoil the shutout bid.
Two of Arizona's three losses this season have come in narrow one-goal defeats against top-20 teams. The Wildcats opened the season with a 2-1 loss to then-No. 18 Long Beach State.
Arizona will look to bounce back on Sunday against Houston, which defeated host Arizona State, 1-0, later Friday night. The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m. PT in Tempe.
