In the women's 200-meter dash, junior Georganne Moline earned a second-place finish with a wind-aided (+2.6) time of 23.85. Junior Clifton Leake clocked a time of 21.64, good for ninth place.
"I was ready to run it but then I got nervous because they got behind schedule so we were doing a lot of sitting around," Romero said. "We had to do more strides than usual and spread the time out. By the time it was time for us to run, I didn't know how my body felt. The run itself felt great, I was really happy about that because I wasn't really sure how I felt before."
The quartet of Romero, senior Shale' Garland, junior Tamara Pridgett and Moline ran the women's 4x400-meter race with a time of 3:35.44, leading from start to finish. Excluding results from around the country, that time is No. 2 in the country on the year.
"It felt really good," Romero said. "Especially getting all of our legs at a confident level. I know for my leg and Coach Harvey always tells me that my job as the leadoff is to give the baton to the second leg in first. So, getting out of the blocks I knew I just had to get in first because I did not feel good getting out of the blocks. The whole run, it felt awful so I just had to get it in first and that's what I did. The rest of the team took it away and it was a really good win. 3:35 for our first race and training through this meet, I don't think that was too bad."
In the women's discus throw competition, sophomore Baillie Gibson threw 178-4 (54.35m), good for third place. Senior Taylor Freeman finished in fourth place after throwing 172-9 (52.66m). Junior Julie Labonté's toss of 168-2 (51.26m) was good for sixth place. Senior Alyssa Hasslen had a toss of 163-10 (50.28m), taking eighth place.
The quartet of sophomore Thomas Moronta, junior Sean Delfani, Leake and senior Elliot Taylor ran the men's 4x100-meter relay. They clocked a time of 42.01 and took ninth place.
"Really excited about not just how today went but the whole meet," head coach Fred Harvey said. "We came in with a mission of winning individual championships, competing at the highest level that we can with the team that we have. We have a great team and we did a tremendous job winning events and running fast in the sprints on a track that isn't necessarily known for sprint times. We won eight events at this competition and that's huge when you think about the competition that we had. I'm really pleased with everything."
