TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona men’s golf team competed in the second round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. at Karsten Country Club today. On the day, the Wildcats shot a total score of 284 (E) to move them into seventh place for the tournament. Arizona will enter the third round with a score of 574 (+6).

The New Mexico Lobos maintained their lead in the second round of the tournament. The Lobos posted a second round score of 286 (+2) to give them a total score of 562 (-6). The will take a two-stroke lead into the third and final round tomorrow. It has been a team effort so far for the Lobos as nobody on the team is worse than 24th on the leader board, with Victor Perez leading them with a score of 139 (-3). He currently sits in a tie for sixth. Oregon State’s Nick Chianello continued his success in the second round by carding a 68 (-3), giving him a total score of 132 (-10). He possesses a two-stroke lead over Iowa State’s Scott Fernandez going into the final round.

Individually for the Wildcats, senior Juan Pablo Hernandez, competing as an individual, has the lowest score on the team. Hernandez produced another even-par round 71 to give him a total score of 142 (E). He sits in a tie for 17th going into the third round.

Erik Oja carded a 74 (+3) for the second round to give him a 143 (+1) for the tournament. He sits in a tie for 24th place along with Alex McMahon, who shot a 73 (+2) in the second round. McMahon also goes into the third round with a score of 134 (+1). Trent Redfern improved on day two as he shot a 71 (E) to give him a 145 (+3) for the tournament. He sits in a tie for 37th. Dylan Healey was the highlight of the day for the Wildcats as he fired a 68 (-3) in the second round. He also sits in a tie for 37th with a score of 154 (+3). Rounding out the rest of the Wildcats, Nick Olsgaard had a vast improvement in the second round by posting a 72 (+1). He will go into the final round with a score of 150 (+8).
