Arizona women’s basketball (11-13, 3-10) fell to No. 21 Colorado (19-5, 8-5), 55-42 at McKale Center on Friday night.

Junior Carissa Crutchfield (Ft. Gibson, Okla.) scored eight points and added two assists in the contest, while junior Alli Gloyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) had eight points and junior Kama Griffitts (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) had six rebounds.

As a team, the Wildcats forced 20 turnovers, above Colorado’s season average of 15.6

“Obviously, it’s a tough loss,” Arizona head coach Niya Butts said. “I thought we did enough defensively, holding them to 55 points gives yourself a chance to win, but we didn’t do enough offensively to win the game.”

UA and CU traded buckets in the first part of the first half, but Colorado ignited a 14-0 run to go up, 25-11. Arizona fueled an 8-0 run of its own with four minutes left and went into the locker rooms trailing 30-23. Gloyd had eight points in the first half to lead all players.

The second half was one of runs, as the Buffs came out on a 10-0 charge to open the half, but the Wildcats responded with an 8-0 run of their own to narrow the score to within nine points. Colorado did not let up and took the game, 55-42.

“It was just tough for us to score,” Butts said. “We didn’t share the ball as well as we needed to. We had some spurts in transitions when we got some things going but just not enough to get the win.”

Sophomore Jen Reese led the Buffs with 15 points and six rebounds.

The Wildcats will face Utah on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. at McKale Center for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness game. Fans are invited to wear pink to support breast cancer survivors and the first 500 fans will receive pink pom-poms.
