TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Colorado Friday afternoon at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
Arizona (5-10-3) came out strong on defense holding Colorado (8-7-3) scoreless until the 19th minute. The Wildcats out-shot the Buffaloes 14-13 with Candace Edwards leading Arizona with three shot attempts. Jazmin Ponce, Ariel Boulicault and Sheridan Cohen each contributed a pair of shots for the Wildcats.
For Colorado (8-7-3), three separate Buffalo players were able to find the back of the net. In the 19th minute of the match, Lizzy Herzl registered her first goal of the season off a cross from teammate Shaye Marshall. In the 45th minute, Storie Ledger scored her third goal of the season off a pass from teammate Hayley Hughes. In the 79th minute, Bianca Jones picked up the third and final goal for the Buffaloes off a pass from teammate Nikola Machalek. Madison Krauser and Anne Stuller led the Buffs with three shot attempts apiece.
"We knew Colorado was going to be a tough team to score on," head coach Lisa Oyen added. "They're dangerous on the attack and that proved to be true today."
In the net, Arizona goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded three saves while Colorado goalkeeper Annie Brunner recorded three saves. Back up goalkeeper for the Buffs, Kayla Millar registered one save in the 11 minutes she played.
Up next, the Wildcats are matched up with Utah on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium. Six Arizona seniors will be recognized before the game in honor of their contributions throughout their years as Wildcats.
