TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona women's soccer team, propelled by goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman's five saves, battled Loyola Marymount to a 0-0 tie in two over time periods on Sunday night in the final match of the Loews Ventana Canyon Cats Classic on Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
Junior Jazmin Ponce led Arizona (4-3-1) with six shot attempts with one on the goal. Both Ariel Boulicault and Candice Osei-Agyemang registered three shots in the match. The Wildcats outshot Loyola Marymount (5-3-2) 18-12. Eight Wildcats including Kirstyn Magyar, Sheridan Cohen, Susana Melendez, Ana-Maria Montoya, Emily Lai, Ponce, Boulicault, and Osei-Agyemang contributed to the 18 shot total.
"I don't think it was the best game of the season," head coach Lisa Oyen said. "I think LMU did a good job of bouncing back after their loss on Friday and we did the opposite. Our players need to learn that the two game weekends are going to be different games and they have to learn to make adjustments. When we don't play well we get away from the really simple things that we do well."
Up next, the Wildcats begin the Pac-12 Conference schedule on the road to play California on Friday, Sept. 21 at 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 23 the Wildcats will face off with Pacific in Stockton, Calif. at 12:00 p.m. in a non-conference match.
In the third match of the Loews Vantana Canyon Cats Classic, Arizona State walked away with a 3-0 victory over Florida International. Devin Marshall, Holland Crook, and Miah Mollay each contributed to the Sundevils goals.
