TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcats men's and women's track and field program opened the 2013 outdoor season by hosting the Willie Williams Classic. The meet is being held at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. The Wildcats were victorious in five events on Friday.

Junior Julie Labonté opened with a toss of 57-8.25 (17.58m) in the women's shot put. That toss was good for first place overall. Junior Omotayo Talabi earned a second-place finish after throwing 51-4.5 (15.66m), an outdoor personal-best mark. Senior Tyler Johnson won the men's hammer throw competition with a mark of 192-9 (58.76m). In 2012, Johnson earned All-America honors in the event after finishing in eighth place.

In the women's javelin, senior Asia Easley won with a mark of 141-9 (43.20m). Junior Amber Passalaqua posted a mark of 106-11 (32.60m), a personal best for the heptathlete. Moriah Hayes posts a personal-best mark of 18-9.25 (5.72m) in the women's long jump, good for third place.

Sophomore Sam Macaluso clocked a personal-best time of 3:52.23 in the 1,500-meter race, good for first place. His previous personal-best time was 4:01.98. Senior Clea Formaz won the women's steeplechase with a time of 10:44.22. Senior Clifton Leake posted a personal-best time 21.55 in the men's 200-meter dash, good for fourth place. In fifth place, freshman Bernard Dickerson-Quinn clocked a time of 21.58. Junior Germe Poston clocked a time of 24.41 and earned a sixth-place finish.

On Saturday, collegiate and high school competition will begin at 10 a.m. MST.
