TUCSON, Ariz.- The University of Arizona men's golf team opened the year at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman, Wash., sitting in second place with a score of 600 (+24).

As a team, the Wildcats posted rounds of 306 and 294 on the day en route to its 600 total. In fact, UA's second-round 294 (+6) was the lowest round of any team in the field of 11 on the day.

The Wildcats are three shots behind Washington State after 36 holes. The tournament-host Cougars carded a rwo-round total of 597 (+21). San Jose State (609), Gonzaga (611) and Idaho (612) round out the top-five places.

Freshman Dylan Healeyled the Wildcats on day one, carded one-under 143 total through the first two rounds to earn a share of the lead, two shots ahead of the rest of the field. Healey finished off the first round with a birdie the par-5 17th hole and ended the round with an eagle on the par-5 on the 18th hole.

Healey picked up right where he left off in the second round with birdies on two of the first three holes. The freshman would go on to shoot a 68 (-4) for the round with six birdies and only two bogeys. He is currently tied with Washington State's Kent Hagen at the top of the leader board.

Senior Trent Redfernalso had a solid second round by registering a 72 (E). He currently sits in a tie for eighth place with a score of 151 (+7).

Benson Liuis in a tie for 23rd place, shot a first-round 74 (+2), which was two strokes off the lead. The native of Taipei, Taiwan, had 11 pars on the round, to go along with two birdies.

Senior Juan Pablo Hernandez improved in the second round of the tournament by carding a 75 (+3) to move 13 spots up the leaderboard. He currently stands tied for 28th place with a score of 156 (+12). Junior Erik Ojais tied for 34th on with a score 157 (+13).

Also competing as individuals are Dylan Kornberg and Ricky Lee. Kornberg is tied for 55th place with a score of 164 (+20), and Lee is tied for 63rd with a score of 167 (+23).

The Wildcats will play the third round of the tournament Tuesday. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. PDT.
