Arizona women’s basketball (11-8, 3-5) fell to USC (8-11, 5-3), 74-57, on Sunday afternoon for the Wildcats’ sixth road game in the last eight contests.

Three players scored in double digits, as junior Kama Griffitts (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) led the team with 12 and senior Davellyn Whyte (Phoenix, Ariz.) and junior Alli Gloyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) both added 11.

Griffitts and freshman Keyahndra Cannon (San Diego, Calif.) led the Wildcats in rebounding with nine and seven, respectively.

As a team, Arizona outrebounded the Trojans, 44-34 and forced 18 turnovers, but only shot 29 percent from the field.

The first half was all USC as the Trojans shot 50 percent from the field, 33 percent from the arc and 90 percent from the free throw line. Arizona shot 23 percent from the field, 20 percent from the arc and was only 6-of-10 from the charity stripe. Cassie Harberts led all players with 15 points and six rebounds.

The Wildcats came out strong in the second half, fueling a 13-4 run to start the half, with scoring efforts from four different players, but USC responded and would not let Arizona close the gap. Harberts continued to rule the floor with 11 additional points and the Trojans finished it off, 74-57.

“In the first half, we weren’t doing a very good job of taking care of business,” Arizona head coach Niya Butts said. “They had a lot of points in the paint in the first half. In the second half, we came out and played more aggressively, but we need to get back to playing our style, defensively.”

Harberts led USC with 26 points and six rebounds.

The Wildcats will return home to welcome Washington and Washington State to McKale Center on Friday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 3.
