TUCSON, Ariz. The Arizona men’s golf team closed out the Don Puckette National Invitational Tournament at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club on Sunday with a seventh place finish on the team leaderboard.

Arizona fired a team score of 290 (+2) in the final round to finish with a total of 864 (E).

“Today the golf course was set up a little tougher with the wind, but with having three guys shoot rounds of par or better, we know we can put some competitive rounds together,” head coach Jim Anderson said. “It just so happened that the two guys that are staples in our lineup didn’t have a great day, but we know in the future those guys are going to have good days and our 2-over round will turn into a 4-under round without doing anything special. We’ve been continuing to improve and I think in some ways we did this week. Now we just have to get ready for Eugene.”

New Mexico won the team competition with a three round total of 844 (-20). With a low team score on the day of 279, the Lobos captured the victory by just one shot over TCU (-19). Oklahoma State (-12), Arkansas (-9) and Texas A&M (-5) rounded out the top-five.

Individually, the Wildcats were led by Juan Pablo Hernandez and Trent Redfern. Hernandez closed out the event with a 71 (-1) to finish with a 213 (69-73-71). Hernandez was Arizona’s top finisher as he tied for 10th. Redfern carded a 1-under 71 as well to close the tournament at 4-over (70-79-71=220). Redfern tied for 39th.

Julien Brun of TCU earned medalist honors with an 8-under 208 total. Brun finished just one shot ahead of Ben Crancer of Texas A&M (-7), who was playing as an individual. Meanwhile, four players finished just two back of Brun at 6-under.

Arizona sophomore Alex McMahon finished tied for 22nd at even-par following a final round 72. Erik Oja finished tied for 29th at 218 (+2). Dylan Healy totaled a 229 to finish tied for 73rd.

Playing as individuals, Tucker Wadkins tied for 76th (230) and Benson Liu came in 87th (235).

The Wildcats return to action on March 25 when they participate in The Duck Invitational in Eugene, Oregon.
