CORVALLIS, Ore. – University of Arizona women’s soccer team fell 5-1 to No. 23 Oregon State Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field at Patrick Wayne Valley Stadium.
Arizona (5-9-3) scored its only goal of the game in the 29th minute of action, courtesy of junior forward Jazmin Ponce off a free kick from outside of the goal box. The Wildcats registered a total of 13 shots throughout the match with Ponce leading Arizona with four and Susana Melendez with two.
Oregon State (11-4-2) came out strong on offense registering three of the five goals in the first half of the match. Both Jenna Richardson and Megan Miller recorded two goals while teammate Brandi Dawson recorded one goal. The Beavers outshot the Wildcats 18-13 with Jenna Richardson leading the team with five shot attempts.
In the net, both Arizona goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman and Oregon State goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme registered four saves apiece.
The Wildcats return home for their final home matches against Colorado on Friday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 p.m. and Utah on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 11:00 a.m. Both matches will be played at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
