Sheldon Blockburger

Sheldon Blockburger begins his ninth season as assistant coach for the track and field program at the University of Arizona. In that time, Blockburger's athletes have won 14 PAC-10/12 outdoor titles and 11 NCAA Championships. Eight of those titles came in the women's high jump, one was in the men's high jump and two were in the decathlon. Additionally, athletes under Blockburger's tutelage have collected 37 All-America honors since his first season in 2006.

Prior to coaching at Arizona, Blockburger coached nine seasons at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, where his athletes claimed 14 Big West outdoor titles and two NCAA Championships. One title came in the women's pole vault and one in the high jump. Blockburger coached 15 All-Americans while at Cal Poly.

Coach Blockburger has had many athletes compete at the international level including, Paul Terek (decathlon) at the 2003, 2005 IAAF World Championships and the 2004 Olympic Games. Sharon Day (high jump) at the 2009 IAAF World Championships and 2012 Olympic Games, Jake Arnold (decathlon) at the 2007, 2009 IAAF World Championships, Elizabeth Patterson (high jump) 2011 and 2012 Diamond League Competitor and Brigetta Barrett (high Jump) 2011 World University Games Champion and 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist. At the Olympics, Barrett had a personal-best clearance of 6-8, the best jump ever by a collegiate athlete in the women's high jump. Barrett also won the silver medal at the 2013 IAAF World Championships.
