TUCSON, Ariz.– The University of Arizona men’s golf team competed in the first two rounds of the Pac-12 Championships today. The event is taking place in Los Angeles, Calif. at the Los Angeles Country Club, a par-70, 7,236-yard course. The Wildcats posted a score of 739 (+39) after day one, and sit in 11th place.
After the first two rounds were complete, the top ranked California Golden Bears sat on top of the leader board. The Golden Bears posted a score of 338 (-12) in the first round, and a 357 (+7) in the second round, giving them a total score of 695 (-5) for the day. The host school UCLA sits in second place with a score of 704 (+4), nine shots behind California.
California was well represented individually as well in the first day as Cal’s Max Homa and Michael Weaver hold the top two spots on the leader board. Homa fired the second lowest score in Pac-12 Championship history in the first round with a 61 (-9), and followed it up with an even par score of 70 in the second round. He is in first place heading into the third round.
For the Wildcats, Juan Pablo Hernandez and Erik Oja were the low scorers throughout the day. When the second round was complete, the two sat in a tie for 14th place. Hernandez shot a 70 (E) in the first round, followed up by a 73 (+3) for the second round. Oja started off the tournament by carding a 73 (+3) in the first round and a 70 (E) in the second round, giving both of them score of 143 (+3) after the first two rounds.
Senior Trent Redfern and Alex McMahon posted scores of 151 (+11) when the first day was complete. Brenden Redfern finished the day with a score of 154 (+14), and Benson Liu shot a 157 (+17) after the first two rounds.
The third round of the Pac-12 Championships will take place tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. PT. The Wildcats will be paired with USC and Washington State, who tee off at 9:00 a.m. PT. For live results of the third round, visit www.golfstat.com, and for complete results, visit www.ArizonaWildcats.com.
