TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona men’s golf team competed in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tempe Regional today. The event is taking place in Tempe, Ariz. at ASU Karsten Golf Course, a par-70, 7,036-yard course. The Wildcats posted a score of 292 (+12) and are in 13th place heading into the second round.
When the first round ended, the top seeded UCLA Bruins sat on top of the leader board. The Bruins started the tournament hot by firing a total score of 268 (-12). UCLA will head into the second round with a commanding lead of 10 strokes over the second place team Duke. Austin Peay State’s Dustin Korte and UCLA’s Pontus Widegren each shot a first round score of 64 (-6), making them co-leaders individually heading into tomorrow’s round. They hold a one-shot lead over UCF’s Greg Eason.
Individually for the Wildcats, Erik Oja was the low scorer for the round. He posted a 71 (+1) for the day and sits in a tie for 28h place. Trent Redfern and Juan Pablo Hernandez shot identical scores of 73 (+3) and both sit in a tie for 45th place. Alex McMahon finished the day with a 75 (+5), and Brenden Redfern carded a 77 (+7) in the first round
The second round of the 2013 NCAA Tempe Regional will take place tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. PT. The Wildcats will be paired with Kennesaw State and Austin Peay State, who tee off at 7:55 a.m. PT.
