TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team competed in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tempe Regional today. The event is taking place in Tempe, Ariz. at ASU Karsten Golf Course, a par-70, 7,036-yard course. The Wildcats posted a second round score of 276 (-4) and moved up to tenth place when the round was completed. Arizona will head to the second round carrying a total score of 568 (+8).
Once again, top seeded UCLA continued to dominate the field by posting a second round score of 273 (-7), giving them a total score of 541 (-19). The Bruins hold an eleven-shot lead over second place UCF, who had a strong second round by carding a 272 (-8) on the day.
UCF was led by the strong play of Greg Eason and Ricardo Gouveia. Eason started the day in third place, but fired the lowest score of the tournament with a 63 (-7), giving him a total score of 128 (-12). Eason is six shots ahead of his teammate Gouveia, who sits in second place with a score of 134 (-6). The highlight of the day was when UC Santa Barbara's Glen Scher earned a hole-in-one on the par-3 seventh.
For Arizona, Erik Oja was once again the low scorer on the team. The junior posted a 67 (-3) on the day, giving him a total score of 138 (-2). Oja sits in a tie for 13th place overall. Trent Redfern improved in the second round by carding a 68 (-2). Redfern will take a score of 141 (+1) into the third round. He currently sits in a tie for 25th place. Juan Pablo Hernandez sits in a tie for 32nd place with a score of 142 (+2) after he carded a 69 (-1) in the second round. Alex McMahon finished the day with a 72 (+2) in the second round, and Brenden Redfern shot an 81.
The third and final round of the 2013 NCAA Tempe Regional will take place tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. PT, with the Wildcats teeing off at 7:55 a.m. PT along with Vanderbilt and Clemson.
