TUCSON, Ariz. – Head coach Dave Rubio and the University of Arizona volleyball program has announced the signing of libero Laura Larson (Lakeville, Minn.) for the 2013 season. She becomes the fifth high school signee for the Wildcats.
“Laura continues the longstanding tradition of us having outstanding liberos,” Rubio said. “Her work ethic, skill set and how she approaches the game really sets her apart. I think she is going to be a great, impactful player for us and she is exactly what we need for this incoming class.”
Larson is a 5’6” libero that was a three-year letterwinner at Lakeside North High School. Larson finished her senior season with 427 digs (4.5 p/s), 31 service aces and 17 assists in leading the Wildcats to the class 3A state championship. In the championship match, Larson had a match-high 21 digs. She also led Lakeside North to the 2010 state title as a sophomore.
She was named all-state honorable mention and All-South Suburban Conference in 2012. Larson also made the all-tournament team as a 16-year-old on the 18-and-under M1 club team in the Fusion Showcase. She was a libero on the club team since 2009. Larson was recently named the Athena Award winner for Lakeville North, an honor going to the top female senior student-athlete.
In addition to volleyball, she has also been a captain of the Lakeville North girl’s golf team and played in the state tournament in 2012.
Larson is the fifth member of the 2013 recruiting class as she joins Ashley Harris, McKenzie Jacobson, Jessika Long and Penina Snuka.
