TUCSON, Ariz. University of Arizona women’s golf earned a third-place finish at the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday. Hosted by Northwestern, the three-round, two-day event was held at Northmoor Country Club (par 71, 6,108 yards) in Highland Park, Ill.

USC won the event with a score of 853 (+1). Oklahoma State finished second with an 855 (+3). Arizona and Stanford shared third place with scores of 857 (+5). The Wildcats collected daily rounds of 285, 279 and 293.

Arizona sophomore Lindsey Weaver won the individual medal with a score of 208 (-5). She carded rounds of 70, 69 and 69 for her best tournament score of her Wildcat career. Weaver’s win, also her highest finish as a Wildcat, is Arizona’s first medal since Manon Gidali won the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in March 2013. Weaver moved from tied for third to first from rounds two to three.

“I think, individually, my rounds were pretty good,” Weaver said. “I got off to some rocky starts in the second and third rounds but I was able to make some birdies and keep myself in contention the whole time. The course was in great condition but got a little windy in the second and third rounds.”

“As a team, we are a little disappointed with our third-place finish,” Weaver added. “We struggled a little today in the final round but we will definitely keep improving in the next few weeks so we can pull out a win in our next tournament in Wilmington.”

Juniors Kendall Prince and Andrea Vilarasau shared a six-way tie for ninth place. Prince’s score of 216 (+3) came from rounds of 69, 71 and 76. Vilarasau shot rounds of 73, 69 and 74.

Freshman Jessica Vasilic finished in a seven-way tie for 29th place. She shot rounds of 73, 70 and 78, good for a score of 221 (+8). Junior Manon Gidali finished in a five-way tie for 50th place. She scored a 227 (+14) with rounds of 78, 75 and 74.

Arizona will compete next at the Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington, Oct. 25-27. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com throughout the tournament.
