Nate Phillips Collects FWAA Accolade

TUCSON, Ariz. University of Arizona football receiver Nate Phillips has been named to the Football Writers’ Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team, it was announced on Monday.

Phillips, a true freshman and 2013 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honoree, was one of just two Pac-12 Conference players representing the offense. In total, four league student-athletes were recognized as Freshman All-Americans by FWAA.

A native of Chandler, Ariz. and graduate of Basha High School, Phillips started 10 games in 2013, including all nine Pac-12 games. He led the Wildcats in receptions with 51 and receiving yards with 696 while scoring seven touchdowns. He averaged 53.5 yards per game, 13.6 yards per catch and registered career-long receptions of 57 yards at USC and vs. Boston College in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl.

Also against the Eagles, Phillips collected nine receptions and totaled 193 yards – the most ever by a true freshman in Arizona school history. The yardage total is 11th-most in single-game history. Phillips’ 57-yard reception in the first quarter matched his career-long, previously set at USC on Oct. 10.

In the AdvoCare V100 Bowl, Phillips recorded Arizona’s first 100-yard receiving game of the season (nine catches for 193 yards). UA’s last 100-yard receiver was Austin Hill (8-175, 2 TD) against Nevada in the 2012 Gildan New Mexico Bowl.
