TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 12 Arizona women’s golf got off to a strong start on day one of the SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational, hosted by Florida. The Wildcats sit in a tie for fourth place in the team standings and are just three strokes from taking over the team lead. Play will resume at 6 a.m. MST/PT on Saturday.
Held at Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla., competition will take place Fri.-Sun., March 14-16. One round of play will be contested each day with 6 a.m. MST/PT tee times. Mark Bostick Golf Course is a par 70, 6,002-yard club.
No. 30 Ohio State and No. 42 Florida State share the team lead after day one. Both squads shot an opening round of 292 (+12). Penn State rounds out the top three with a 293 (+13). No. 12 Arizona and No. 29 Virginia share a tie for fourth place with a score of 294 (+14). Karolina Vickova of Florida leads the individual race with a 69 (-1).
Leading the field early in the day, junior Andrea Vilarasau was Arizona’s top golfer in a tie for fifth place after round one. She fired a one-over score of 71. No. 91 junior Kendall Prince and freshman Jessica Vasilic share a 13-way tie for 25th place. Both players carded a score of 74 (+4).
No. 21 sophomore Lindsey Weaver and No. 36 freshman Wanasa Zhou round out the Arizona five and share a nine-way tie for 38th place. Both players shots opening rounds of 75 (+5). Competing as an individual, junior Manon Gidali shot an opening round of 79 and sits in a five-way tie for 60th place.
