Wildcats Remain Perfect with 5-0 sweep of Tulane

TUCSON, Ariz. – For the second straight weekend, the Arizona sand volleyball team defended its new home court with a perfect record as it defeated Tulane 5-0 to close out the Wildcat Spring Challenge on Saturday at the Arizona Sand Volleyball Courts.

The Wildcats moved to 5-0 on the season, while Tulane fell to 2-2 on the year. Arizona was 2-0 on the weekend after defeating Arizona Christian yesterday.

For the fifth straight match, the bottom of the lineup gave the Wildcats an early boost. Emily Kiser and Sarah Seiber remained perfect on the year at the No. 5 position with a tough 21-11, 16-21, 15-9 victory over Sarah Strasner and Miah Diirell.

Just moments later, Penina Snuka and Allie Cook stayed undefeated after a 21-19, 17-21, 15-8 victory over Olivia Utt and Courtney Liddle at the No. 4 position.

With the Wildcats up 2-0 after the first round of play, Madison and McKenna Witt clinched the victory for Arizona with a quick 21-12, 21-12 victory over Annie Shurtz and Grace Weaver at the No. 2 position.

The final two matches of the day went to deciding third sets. After dropping the opening set, Rachel Rhoades and Ronni Lewis bounced back to defeat Hannah Holmes and Anna Wruck, 13-21, 21-18, 15-11. Rhoades and Lewis were named to the Wildcat Spring Challenge All-Tournament Team after an unbeaten weekend.

Meanwhile, after winning a tough opening set, Madi Kingdon and Jane Croson dropped the second set 24-26 to force a decided third set. Kingdon and Croson controlled the set from the beginning as they went on to defeat Tea Juric and Jackie Wegner, 23-21, 24-26, 15-10.

The Wildcats will travel to Hawaii for their first road trip of the season. They will take on USC and Hawaii in dual action beginning on Wednesday.
