2013 Pac-12 Women’s Newcomer of the Year (Cross Country)

 

2013 (XC): Beattie arrived at Arizona and made a very strong first impression … She won the very first race of the cross country season, finishing the 5K at the George Kyte Classic in 16:47.2 in Flagstaff, Ariz. … Beattie took sixth place overall (third among Wildcats) at the Roy Griak Invitational, clocking a time of 21:02 in the 6K race … 19:56 was good for a seventh-place finish (first Wildcat finisher) in the 6,000-meter race at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational … Beattie earned all-conference honors at the Pac-12 Championships, finishing fifth overall (second Wildcat to finish) with a time of 21:20 in the 6,000-meter race in Boulder, Colo. … Beattie’s time of 19:39 at the NCAA West Regional 6K placed her ninth overall (second UA finisher) … She finished the season at the NCAA Championships with a time of 21:15.9 and took 90th place overall … Beattie was one of the top runners for the women’s team that claimed the first conference championship in program history … Beattie also helped the Wildcats earn a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships, the best finish in program history … That second-place finish was the worst finish the women’s team had all season, winning six out of seven competitions.

 

BEFORE ARIZONA: She attended Iowa for the 2011 and 2012 years … She earned 2011 Cross Country All-Region honors.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: A graduate of Woodstock High School in Woodstock, Ill. … She earned four letters in cross country and three letters in track and field … She was the team captain her senior year and the team’s most valuable player her freshman, junior and senior year … She earned All-State honors in cross country her freshman year, junior year and senior year, where she was also the state champion her final two seasons … On the track, she claimed All-State honors as a sophomore, junior and senior in both the mile and two-mile race … She was a three-time state champion, winning the two-mile race her junior and senior year as well as the mile in her senior year … Beattie earned All-America accolades at the Nike Cross Country Nationals and the Footlocker Invitational … On the track, she earned All-America honors at the New Balance Invitational and the USATF Championships … She holds school records in the 800 meters, mile and two-mile race.

PERSONAL: She is the daughter of Debbie and Dave Beattie … She has four siblings, a brother, Luke and three sisters, Elise, Maura and Grace … Both of her parents did cross country and track at Bowling Green University … Her sister, Elise, competes on the cross country and track and field team a the University of New Hampshire … She is majoring in physiology.
