Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Wildcat men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the Dave Murray Invitational on Friday in Tucson, Ariz. The lone home meet of the season for the Wildcats will be held at Del Urich Golf Course (subject to change if weather becomes an issue). The women will run three miles at 5 p.m. MST while the men are set to run 4.25 miles at 5:45 p.m.
Arizona will compete against Aftershock Distance Club, Arizona Christian, Arizona State, Estrella Mountain CC, Mesa CC, Northern Arizona, Paradise Valley and Pima CC.
In the week one USTFCCCA national poll, the Arizona men and women were unranked. Five other Pac-12 schools are ranked in the top-30 of the women’s national poll. Oregon is second, Stanford is fourth, Colorado is seventh and Washington is 14th. The women’s team is ranked No. 6 in the west region.
The Wildcat men are No. 10 in the west regional poll. In the national poll, the Pac-12 has five teams among the top 30. Colorado, the defending NCAA Champions, are ranked No. 1, Oregon is No. 3, Stanford is No. 5, UCLA is No. 24 and Washington is No. 27.
On the women’s side, senior Kristina Aubert, senior Stephanie Bulder, junior Daylee Burr, freshman Chrissy Calain, junior Molly Callahan, senior Clea Formaz, sophomore McKenna Gaffney, freshman Claire Green, junior Kate Penney, senior Hanna Peterson and Amanda Russell will toe the line for Arizona.
For the men, sophomore Matthew Beer, senior Kenji Bierig, sophomore Michael Cox, sophomore Jeff Gautreau, freshman Michael Godbout, freshman Rodolfo Gomes, junior Dylan Hopper, freshman Gustavs Kehris, sophomore Collins Kibet, freshman Patrick Leary, senior Jonas Legernes, senior Sam Macaluso, freshman Bailey Roth, senior Braden Timpe and sophomore Brendan Tinoco will don the cardinal and navy for the Wildcats.
In the first meet of the season at the George Kyte Classic, the women’s team earned a second-place finish led by newcomer Aubert. The senior transfer was the first-place finisher in the women’s three-mile race by over 30 seconds. Penney, Green, Bulder and Burr were the other scorers for the Wildcats. On the men’s side, the team took third place overall and was led by Macaluso. He finished in fourth place overall in the 8,000-meter race. The other UA scorers were Bierig, Beer, Hopper and Leary.
