Arizona Finishes Sixth at Pac-12 Championships

SEATTLE, WASH. -- The Arizona women's gymnastics team competed in the first session of the Pac-12 Championships Saturday, March 19 at host school, The University of Washington. The Wildcats finished second in the session behind Stanford University with a score of 195.575. Arizona finished ahead of Washington and Arizona State. Following the second session, the GymCats placed sixth overall.

The Wildcats began competition on the uneven bars and captured the lead early after earning a score of 49.10. The team was led by freshman Dani Spencer, and juniors Krysten Howard and Selynna Felix-Terrazas with scores of 9.85. Junior Gabrielle Laub earned a 9.80. The four gymnasts each ended their routines with #ARIZONASTICK's. Senior Lexi Mills and sophomore Gabrielle Laub earned scores of 9.75 and 9.025, respectively. 

Following Olympic Rotation, the Wildcats competed on the beam in the next rotation earning a 48.50- slipping into second place behind Stanford University. Sophomore Maddy Cindric and senior Jessie Sisler contributed a pair of 9.85's. Saturday's meet marked Sisler's tenth score above 9.80 on beam for the season. Mills received a 9.825, her fifth score of 9.825 or higher in a row. Senior Shelby Edwards followed with a 9.775. Howard and freshman Skyler Sheppard rounded out the beam scores with a 9.20 and 9.125, respectively. 

Consistency was key for the GymCats as they headed into the third rotation on floor, earning a 49.025. Sisler, who won floor at the Pac-12 Championships last season in Salt Lake City, earned a 9.85. Felix-Terrazas, Schneider and Howard all posted scores of 9.80. Cindric earned a 9.775 and Mills earned a 9.75. 

The team closed out the meet with a 48.90 on vault, and the scores climbed as the lineup pregressed. Freshman Lauryn Mattson earned her eighth score of 9.80 or above after receiving a 9.80. Sisler too, posted a 9.80. Laub received a 9.75 on the event. Sheppard competed for the first time on the event and received a 9.725. 

Up next, the Wildcats will find out where they will compete at the NCAA Regional Finals on Monday, March 21 at 2 p.m. MST. On April 2, the Wildcats will compete at one of the following locations: Salt Lake City, Tuscaloosa, Athens, Iowa City, Ann Arbor and Minneapolis.
