TUCSON, Ariz. – Two days after earning an impressive victory in the 200 breast, Arizona rising junior Kevin Cordes added a title in the 100 breast at the Phillips 66 Nationals and World Championship Trials in Indianapolis on Friday evening.

Cordes, who came into the meet with a career-best of 1:00.47 in the event, bested that time with a 1:00.08 in prelims this morning. He then turned in an impressive 59.99 in the finals. That is just the third sub-1:00 time this year, moving behind only Christian Sprenger (59.05) and Fabio Scozzoli (59.77) in the world rankings.

The Wildcats were not done with just Cordes in the event, however, as Olympian Clark Burckle placed fifth with a time of 1:01.14, while yesterday’s 50 breast champion, Kevin Steel, came in seventh with a time of 1:01.80.

Meanwhile, Matt Grevers earned a second place finish in the 100 back with a time of 53.25 to earn a spot on the national team. Rising senior Mitchell Friedemann won the B-Final with a solid 55.17.

The event will wrap up tomorrow with the 200 IM, 50 free, 1,500 free and 800 free.

NBC will cover the event tomorrow from 1-2:30 p.m. ET. Beginning at 11:00 p.m. ET there will be one-hour coverage on NBC Sports Network.

Additionally, USA Swimming will offer a live webcast of the entire meet at usaswimming.org/nationals. Each day, prelims begin at 9 a.m. ET, followed by finals at 6 p.m. ET.
