WALNUT CREEK, Calif. The Arizona volleyball team has been picked to finish eighth in the Pac-12 based on a preseason poll by the league's head volleyball coaches, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The Wildcats, who return six starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's squad, received 52 total points in the poll.

For the first time, the league put out a Preseason All-Pac-12 Team and rising junior Madi Kingdon was selected to the 14-member team. Kingdon earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors last season after recording a team-best 443 kills to go along with a .211 hitting percentage, 319 digs, 44 blocks and 16 service aces. Kingdon was a member of the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team in 2011.

Stanford, who won the league title last season, was picked to win the conference title again, earning 120 points and 10 first-place votes. USC was picked second (111 points/2 first place votes), followed by Washington (99 points), Oregon (91 points), UCLA (76 points), Arizona State (65 points), California (59 points) and Arizona (52). Utah (49) was ninth with Colorado (30), Washington State (21) and Oregon State (19) rounding out the poll.

The preseason coaches’ poll has been administered every year since the first season of Pac-12 women’s volleyball in 1986. It has predicted the regular-season champion correctly 17 times in 27 years.

The regular season is set to begin Friday, Aug. 30. This year, again, Pac-12 volleyball teams will have unprecedented television coverage with 90 matches being broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks and an additional three will be nationally televised on ESPNU. Arizona opens its season at home on August 30 against Morgan State at 1:30 p.m. in the Arizona Invitational.
