TUCSON - Members of the University of Arizona football team have collected preseason honors with less than 90 days until the start of the 2013 season. Head coach Rich Rodriguezleads the Wildcats in his second season at the helm of the program.
The squad finished 8-5 in 2012 and capped the campaign with a victory over Nevada in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl. Rodriguez's 2013 squad returns 48 lettermen from 2012 and 18 seniors.
Six Wildcats were named to Phil Steele's 2013 Preseason All-Pac-12 Team. Junior running back Ka'Deem Carey (first team) and junior offensive lineman Mickey Baucus (fourth team) represent the offense. Senior linebacker Jake Fischer (third team), senior linebacker Marquis Flowers (fourth team) and senior cornerback Shaquille Richardson(fourth team) were Arizona's defensive honorees. Senior Richard Morrison was named second team at the punt return position.
Additionally, Carey was named to Phil Steele's 2013 Preseason All-America Second Team and to the College Football Performance Awards 2013 Running Back Watch List. Carey finished the 2012 season with 303 rushing attempts for 1,929 yards (both single-season school records). The yardage total ranks as the fifth-most in Pac-12 single-season history. He finished the season with 24 total touchdowns to tie Art Luppino (1954) for the most individual touchdowns in school single-season history.
