With only two weekends off during the spring semester, the Arizona Wildcat men’s tennis team spent one of those weekends volunteering with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday. The team arrived at the construction site on E. 28th St. armed with snacks, painting supplies and plenty of enthusiasm.

“We all really enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity over the weekend,” said head coach Tad Berkowitz. “Our team felt very proud to be a part of the day and we can’t wait to get involved again in the future.”

The team, including coach Berkowtiz and assistant coach Tom Lloyd, was assigned the task of painting the entire interior of the home in a shade of eggshell white. The enthusiasm of the players paid off as they remained focused and team-oriented and finished the job two hours ahead of schedule and with an element of perfection.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for our team to give back to the community that has given us so much,” said Lloyd. “The Habitat for Humanity representative gave a stat that children in homes are 600% more likely to finish high school and go to college. That hit home with me.”

Painting was among the final processes to enable the new owner, a woman in her 40's, to move in to her new home.

The team plans to work with Habitat for Humanity again in the future and continue to volunteer in the community.
