TUCSON - Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Fred Harvey is in Moscow and he is keeping a blog of sorts to keep people updated on the happenings at the 2013 IAAF World Championships. Tuesday marked the fourth day of competition. The final day is August 18th.

Due to his busy schedule, Harvey was able to post a blog on Monday but not on Tuesday.

“Day three was not a great Wildcat Day here in Russia. However, receiving the news today regarding the passing of one of my good friends Dave Sitton, what happened here was devastating, but it was just a race! I would like to take a day/moment for all Dave’s family, friends, colleagues, and Wildcats everywhere to reflect on our great friend!”

Former Wildcat Georganne Moline competed in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles on Monday, the third day of competition. She posted a time of 59.05 and finished in 29th place overall. Moline tripped and fell over the eighth hurdle.

“Yeah today stunk,” Moline said. “But my season isn't over, keep your eyes out for me because I'm not done just yet.”

On Tuesday, the fourth day of competition, former Wildcat Edgar Rivera-Morales competed in the preliminary round of the men’s high jump in his Mexico uniform. He cleared 7-3.25 (2.22m) and finished in 22nd place overall, failing to make the final.

Volunteer assistant coach Bernard Lagat ran in the preliminary round of the men’s 5K on Tuesday and clocked a time of 13:23.59. That time was good for sixth place overall and a spot in the final. He is the only athlete with Wildcat ties to make a final thus far. The final will begin at 8:45 p.m. on Aug. 16 in Moscow. In MST, the race is set to go off at 9:45 a.m. on the same day.

The qualification round of the men’s long jump will begin at 10:25 a.m. on Aug. 14. In MST, it will start at 11:25 p.m. on Aug. 13. Luis Rivera-Morales, the brother of Edgar, will represent Mexico in that competition. He currently holds the No.1 mark in the world this year.
