TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona’s reigning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, junior Tra’Mayne Bondurant, has been named Jim Thorpe Player of the Week Honorable Mention, given to the nation’s top defensive backs. Bondurant was also the Arizona coaches’ Defensive Player of the Week and a College Football Performance Award Honorable Mention Player of the Week. He led a resurgent Arizona defense in a 35-0 shutout of Northern Arizona last Friday in Tucson.
Bondurant registered a game-high seven tackles, including one for loss, and picked off a pair of passes. On the first play of the third quarter, Bondurant stepped in front a tipped pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown – his second career interception return for a score.
Later in the quarter, he picked off another pass to secure his first career multi-interception game. His help in the run game limited the Lumberjacks to just 2.4 yards per carry, and his tackle for loss was one of 11 stops for the Wildcats behind the line of scrimmage. Arizona had played 32 games since its last double-digit tackle for loss game at Washington State on Oct. 15, 2010.
The Wildcats will hit the road this weekend, visiting UNLV on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. PDT kickoff. CBS Sports Network will televise the action, with Brian Jeffries, Lamont Lovett and Dana Cooper on the radio call for the Arizona Radio Network.
