TUCSON, Ariz. University of Arizona senior kicker Jake Smith is the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Arizona picked up a 58-13 win at UNLV on Saturday for head coach Rich Rodriguez’s 130th career victory.

Smith set a new school record with 16 points by kicking to help lead Arizona past UNLV, 58-13, Saturday in Las Vegas. In his first season as the Wildcats starting place kicker, Smith collected his first made field goal with a 41-yard boot to put Arizona on top 3-0 after its first possession. Smith went on to convert 3-of-4 field goals (made 29 and 30, missed 39) and knocked home all seven extra points he tried.

The tally of 16 points broke the previous single-game record for kickers of 15 held previous by three different players. In addition to tacking on points, Smith also kicked off 11 times in the game with five touchbacks and a 63.3-yard average. The Rebels mustered only 16.5 yards per return on six tries, and Smith registered one tackle on one of his kickoffs to stop a potential long return.

On the season, Smith is 12-of-12 for point after attempts and 3-of-5 field goals attempted with a long of 41. He has 17 kickoffs for 1,084 yards with an average of 63.8 yards per boot. He’s also had nine touchbacks.

The Wildcats return to Tucson and Arizona Stadium on Saturday, hosting the UTSA Roadrunners for a 7:30 PDT kickoff. The game will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks, and tickets can be purchased by calling 520-621-CATS, at the McKale Center Ticket Office, or visiting
