TUCSON – The University of Arizona Wildcat men’s and No. 5 women’s cross country teams will host the Dave Murray Invitational on Friday. The meet will be held at Del Urich Golf Course and is the only meet Arizona will host for the 2013 cross country season. The men will run 4.25 miles (just short of 7,000 meters) and the women will run 3 miles (just short of 5,000 meters). The men will run first and the gun will go off at 5 p.m. MST while the women will begin their race at 5:45 p.m. MST.
Arizona will compete against Arizona State, Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon University in the Division I section. While Estrella Mountain Community College, Mesa Community College, Paradise Valley, Pima Community College and Western New Mexico compete in the open section.
On the women’s side, sophomore Kayla Beattie, senior Meg Bellino, junior Stephanie Bulder, junior Daylee Burr, sophomore Molly Callahan, junior Nicci Corbin, junior Clea Formaz, freshman McKenna Gaffney, senior Elvin Kibet, freshman Maria Larsson, senior Erin Menefee, junior Kate Penney, junior Hanna Peterson and senior Amanda Russell will toe the line for Arizona.
For the men, freshman Matthew Beer, junior Kenji Bierig, freshman Michael Cox, freshman Jeff Gautreau, sophomore Dylan Hopper, freshman Collins Kibet, sophomore Jonas Legernes, junior Sam Macaluso, freshman Travis Thorne, junior Braden Timpe, freshman Brendan Tinoco, junior Thomas Valente and sophomore Sam Willis will don the cardinal and navy for the Wildcats.
In the week one USTFCCCA national poll, the Arizona women moved up two spots to No. 5 in the country. Four other Pac-12 schools are ranked in the national poll, Oregon is third, Washington is No. 7, Stanford is No. 8 and Colorado is No. 15. In the west regional poll, the UA women are ranked No. 3.
The Wildcat men are No. 10 in the west regional poll. In the national poll, the Pac-12 has five teams among the top 30. Colorado is third, Oregon is 12th, UCLA is 14th, Stanford is 21st and Arizona State is 28th.
