STANFORD, Calif. –Arizona women’s soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 2 Stanford in an overtime dual Friday night at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
Arizona (5-3-3) offense recorded 19 shots in the match with senior Jazmin Ponce pacing the squad with five. Junior Emily Lai scored the Wildcats’ lone goal of the match in the 77th minute off an intercepted pass from teammate Alexandra Doller to eventually send the game into overtime.
No. 2 Stanford (9-0-1) scored the first goal of the match in the 36th minute after Megan Turner headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick from teammate Syndney Payne. The Cardinal outshot the Wildcats, 22-19, with Taylor Uhl leading the team with five, one on goal.
In the net, goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded a total of three saves while Stanford goalkeeper Jane Campbell recorded three for the Cardinal.
Up next, the Cats take on California on Sun., Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. at Goldman Field in Berkley, Calif.
