TUCSON, Ariz. – After earning a split in Washington over the weekend, the Arizona volleyball team returns home to face UCLA and No. 1 USC this weekend inside McKale Center.
The Wildcats will host UCLA on Friday night at 6 p.m. for the annual “Dig Pink” event, which raises awareness for breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink. The match will also be broadcasted live on the Pac-12 Networks. Meanwhile, Arizona will host No. 1 USC on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and it will also be live on the Pac-12 Networks.
Arizona is coming off an important road win at Washington State on Sunday. The Wildcats were down 2-1 before winning the next two sets for the victory. The win evened Arizona’s Pac-12 record to 3-3 and it currently sits in a fourth place tie with four other teams.
Madi Kingdon continues to be one of the top all-around players in the league. She currently leads the league in points (5.26 p/s), while her nine double-doubles also lead the league. Her 5.26 points per set rank ninth nationally. Meanwhile, she ranks second in the Pac-12 in kills (4.44 p/s) and ninth in service aces (0.31 p/s).
The Wildcats have been one of the best defensive teams in the Pac-12 as their 16.94 digs per set leads the league, while their .147 opponent hitting percentage and 2.82 blocks per set rank second in the conference. Arizona already has 23 combined double-doubles on the year, the most of any team in the Pac-12.
UCLA is coming off a 3-2 win at Oregon State last weekend, which snapped a five-match losing streak. The Bruins have struggled defensively this season as they rank last in opponent hitting percentage (.222) and digs (13.05 p/s). They are also last in service aces (0.90 p/s). Karsta Lowe paces UCLA offensively as she ranks sixth in the Pac-12 in kills with 3.93 per set and ninth in points at 4.31 per set.
USC heads into the weekend on a 10-match winning streak. The No. 1 team in the country has only lost one match so far this season, a 3-1 decision at No. 9 San Diego on Sept. 13. USC is the only undefeated team in league play as it sits at 6-0. The Trojans rank second in the Pac-12 in kills (14.47 p/s) and service aces (1.39 p/s). They also rank in the top half of the league in hitting percentage (.290), assists (13.31 p/s) and blocks (2.78 p/s). Samantha Bricio leads USC offensively as she leads the league in service aces with 0.76 per set, while also ranking seventh in points (4.35 p/s) and 10th in kills (3.22 p/s).
