UA Falls to Michigan in Second-Straight OT Game

Arizona women’s basketball fell to Michigan, 73-71 on Saturday in its second-straight overtime game in two days on Saturday.

Junior Candice Warthen led the team with 21 points, while seniors Kama Griffitts and Carissa Crutchfield finished with 18 and 12, respectively.

Freshman Dejza James scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and had two steals.

Warthen also had nine assists and three steals on the day.

In the first half, Arizona overcame deficits of nine and eight to tie the score at 26, but Michigan went on a 6-0 run to lead, 32-26 at the half.

In the second half, the Wildcats took over the lead for the first time in the game at the 6:19 mark and stretched it to a five-point lead, but the Wolverines came roaring back and made a jumper at the buzzer to force overtime.

In overtime, the teams traded points, but Michigan made two back-to-back three-pointers and came away with a 73-71 victory.

Nicole Elmblad led Michigan with 12 points and 13 rebounds in the matchup       

“We have to work on finishing close games,” Arizona head coach Niya Butts said. “The sooner we can get back on the floor, the better.”

The Wildcats will hit the road again next weekend to take on UC Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m.
