TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 56 Arizona Women’s tennis (9-1) will hit the road to take on two opponents this weekend in Seattle, Wash. On Saturday Mar. 8 the Cats will take on Seattle (3-10) at 11 a.m.
On Sunday Mar. 9, Arizona will face off against No. 28 Washington (10-2) in the first conference match of the season.
The Wildcats will have their first action since Feb. 22 due to the cancellation of last week’s match against San Diego State.
Despite the rain-out against SDSU the Wildcats moved up in this week’s rankings to No. 56.
UA finished its non-conference season with an undefeated record at home, including wins over San Francisco, Sacramento State and San Diego.
Seniors No. 112 Lacey Smyth, No. 85 Kim Stubbe, and Akilah James continue to lead the Cats in the No. 1, 2 and 3 spots, respectively. All have winning records with at least 5 wins and no more than 2 losses.
Freshman Lauren Marker has made a statement in non-conference play, thus far, with an 8-1 record in the No. 4 spot.
Arizona will play one of their last two non-conference matches this weekend against Seattle. The other will be at home Mar. 19 against No. 29 Purdue.
This will be the first time Arizona has played Seattle. The Redhawks are in their third season in the Western Athletic Conference.
Conference play will begin against Washington. 10 of the Pac-12 teams are ranked heading into conference play.
Arizona fell to Washington last season, 4-3 in Seattle. The Huskies will take on No. 40 Arizona State Friday Mar. 7 before matching up against the Cats.
