Tucson, Ariz. – Despite senior Mario Urquidi’s impressive victory, the Cats were unable to come up with the team win, falling to Oregon 4-1 on Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
Arizona earned its sole point in singles from Urquidi as he defeated Sardu in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Prior to, the Ducks took the early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point on courts one and three. Robin Cambier and Kevin Farin defeated Naoki Takeda and Sumeet Shinde 8-4, while Kieren Thompson and Trevor James fell to Daniel Sardu and Jayson Amos 8-3. The match on court two, featuring Urquidi and Matt Dunn was abandoned at 7-7.
Kneale, Thompson, and Shinde fell early for Oregon to win the match.
Kneale lost to Amos 6-2, 6-3, Thompson fell to Cambier 6-1, 6-2, and Shinde was defeated by Daan Maasland 6-3, 7-6 (4).
With the team outcome decided, Takeda and James both had their matches abandoned.
The Wildcats return home next weekend to host No. 2 USC Friday April 11 at 1 p.m. and No. 3 UCLA Sunday April 13 at 12 p.m.
