TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 35 Arizona (16-3, 5-2 Pac-12) completed the sweep of ranked opponents Saturday after defeating No. 73 Colorado, 5-2.

The Wildcats are a perfect 12-0 at home this season.

“I’m happy with today’s win,” said Head Coach Vicky Maes. “Being undefeated at home in this stage of the game, being 16-3 and beating two solid conference opponents is great. It is great going into next week.”

Arizona’s doubles marked yet another Saturday afternoon. The Cats are now 16-0 when winning the doubles point.

Seniors Susan McRann and Akilah James dominated on court three. The two outmatched Colorado’s Nuria Omeno-Ruiz and Dhany Quevedo taking the win, 8-2. The pair are now 8-2 since being united.

Senior Lacey Smyth and sophomore Shayne Austin defeated Colorado’s Carla Manzi Tenorio and Winde Janssens 8-5, clinching the doubles point.

Singles action started off with several close sets.

After a good match in doubles, Austin took to singles winning her match with ease 6-1, 6-1. Austin was the first singles match win of the day for the Cats.

Smyth earned another hard fought win. She won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, defeating Colorado’s Julyette Steur.

Freshmen Lauren Marker improved to a 15-1 record tying for the team lead with Senior Kim Stubbe, after a victory over Colorado’s Nuria Ormeno Ruiz, 6-4, 7-5.

Markers’ victory clinched the match for the Cats.

James battled back in her match after dropping the first set. She earned the fifth point for Arizona by winning, 6-8, 6-1, 10-8.

“I’m a little bit disappointed in the way we lost sets today,” said Maes. “When you play a team like Colorado that is hungry and ready to go, you can’t just think it is going to be an easy day. I told the girls yesterday it was going to be a battle and felt some weren’t ready to battle. We need be ready to go in terms of going out and being ready to play their game.”

The Cats will travel next week to play UCLA on Friday, April 11 and USC on Saturday April 12.
