MCKALE RENOVATIONS SET TO BEGIN ON APRIL 12
We’ve spoken to you about our plans to renovate McKale Center, and this week, we were able to complete the approval process, allowing us to begin the actual renovations. We met with the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) towards the end of last week and received its approval. On Tuesday, we appeared in front of the Joint Committee on Capital Review (JCCR), which makes recommendations to the Legislature regarding state expenditures for land, buildings and improvements, and they granted us permission to move forward with the project.
As a result, the McKale renovation project will commence this Saturday, April 12. We want to thank those bodies for working with us through the process and certainly want to recognize President Hart and all she’s done in supporting the athletics department. I also feel like I need to recognize Cole and Jeannie Davis for their lead gift and all of the other generous members of our fan base who have contributed to this project.
As we progress, the renovation project must be conducted in a safe environment. So, the entire McKale arena bowl and the upper outside arena concourses and doors will be closed from April 12 through the middle of November. Public access to offices and for fall events will be through the south-end doors, adjacent to the McKale Ticket Office.
Our staff has been working tirelessly to make this plan a reality and now we’re just days away from getting started, but our work is only beginning. If you’re interested in contributing to our McKale Renovation project, please contact a member of our development team at (520) 621-6600. I’m so excited to see how the renovations turn out and I can’t wait for each and every one of you to get a chance to enjoy the benefits this renovation will offer.

RENEWAL DEADLINE QUICKLY APPROACHING
CATS IN THE COMMUNITY
As the school year is beginning to come to a close, the student-athletes have not forgotten about the importance of community service and giving back to our Tucson community. The volleyball team has been busy the last couple of months doing school visits on February 19, 26, March 5, 12 and 26. Traveling to the schools that came out to different practices and their games, these young ladies have stressed the importance of staying active, getting good grades and making sure you eat right. In addition, softball freshman, Michelle Floyd, paid a visit to Rincon Vista before their AIMS Testing to encourage the students to always give 110%. Thank you to all the student-athletes that are continuing to give back. Bear Down!
ASK THE ATHLETICS DIRECTOR
We’re collecting questions and topics to address in Wildcat Wednesday and we’d like to encourage everyone to continue sending items. We don’t expect to be able to answer every question or address every topic, but we’ll do our best to pick items that seem most important to the readers and write about them in the space above. If you have something you think might make a good question or topic, please email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Next Wednesday is the final National Letter of Intent (NLI) signing period for athletic programs that had an early signing period last November. There are a number of prospects that will sign during this April signing period because of the nature of certain sports and the recruiting process. It’s an exciting time for the department because we get closer to having a good picture of our entire recruiting class for the 2014-15 academic year. Once the spring commencement passes, it is then permissible for these newcomers to report to campus and begin summer classes and start acclimating to college life as a student-athlete.
Gymnastics concluded its season with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Regionals. Shelby Edwards produced the second-highest meet score on vault with a 9.925 and All-American Kristin Klarenbach earned her ninth 9.900 on floor exercise this season … Track & Field’s Kate Penney posted a 4:20.32 in the 1,500 meters, the sixth-best mark in school history, at the Arizona-Oregon dual meet … Wanasa Zhou of Women’s Golf posted an eighth-place finish (-2) at the PING/ASU Invitational, her second top-10 finish and her third time as UA’s top finisher this season.
