TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 11 University of Arizona women’s golf earned a runner-up finish behind No. 9 Stanford at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships on Sunday. Hosted by Oregon State at Trysting Tee Golf Club (par 72, 6,256 yards), competition was held Fri.-Sun., April 25-27.
No. 9 Stanford won the 2014 Pac-12 title with an 869 (+5). No. 11 Arizona and No. 1 USC shared the runner-up finish with scores of 870 (+6). The Wildcats shot rounds of 287, 287 and 296. No. 2 UCLA finished fourth with an 871 (+7). No. 1 Alison Lee of UCLA won the individual medal with a 211 (-5).
No. 13 sophomore Lindsey Weaver was Arizona’s top finisher for the fifth time this season. She fired a 214 (-2) with rounds of 68, 72 and 74. She is the Wildcats’ top finisher at the conference championships since Lorena Ochoa also earned a runner-up finish in 2002.
No. 92 freshman Jessica Vasilic shared a four-way tie for 13th place. She finished with a 220 (+4) and rounds of 75, 71 and 74. Junior Manon Gidali finished in a three-way tie for 17th place. With two of her three rounds at par, she collected a score of 221 (+5).
No. 35 freshman Wanasa Zhou earned a 20th-place finish. She shot rounds of 72, 74 and 76 for a score of 222 (+6). Junior Kendall Prince rounded out the Arizona five in a four-way tie for 21st place. She carded rounds of 76, 70 and 77 for a score of 223 (+7).
For the first time in NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships history, the teams and individuals that will participate in the 2014 NCAA Regional Championships will be announced live on national television via Golf Channel on Mon., April 28.
