Three Cats Earn Pac-12 All-Academic Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona baseball players Xavier Borde, Trent Gilbert and Scott Kingery have been recognized as Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mentions selections, the conference office announced on Monday.

Borde, a junior, carries a 3.2 grade point average as a psychology  major with a minor in sociology. The left-handed pitcher appeared in 20 games for the Wildcats this season. A native of Playa del Rey, Calif., Borde recorded an 0-1 record with a 7.63 earned run average, while registering 15 strikeouts in 15.1 innings pitched.

Gilbert, also a junior, boasts a 3.1 grade point average as a marketing major. The second baseman hit .324 and tied for the conference lead with 73 base hits on the season. A native of Torrance, Calif., Gilbert led the Wildcats in both runs batted in (39) and extra base hits (16), while starting all 55 games during the year.

Kingery, a sophomore, has earned a 3.2 grade point average as a sports and society major. The outfielder was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference team last week and led the Wildcats with a 3.54 batting average. A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Kingery also finished second in the Pac-12 with a .456 on base percentage and tied for the overall lead with 19 stolen bases in the regular season.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
