COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Arizona incoming freshman Stanley Johnson has been named to the USA Men’s U18 National Team that will compete in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship later this month in Colorado Springs.
With UA represented on the squad by both Johnson and head coach Sean Miller, who is serving as an assistant coach with the U18 Men’s National Team this summer, Team USA will compete from June 20-24 for a spot in next summer’s FIBA U19 World Championship.
A 2014 McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic selection, Johnson will enter the FIBA Americas U18 Championships in search of his third gold medal with USA Basketball. He earned his first gold in 2011 at the FIBA Americas U16 Championships and added to his collection in 2012 at the FIBA U17 World Championship in Kaunas, Lithuania.
Johnson’s long history with USA Basketball dates to 2010, when he participated in his first USA Developmental National Team mini-camp. Along the way, he was named a member of the USA DNT in both 2011 and 2014, starting for the USA Junior National Select Team that won the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit.
For the second-consecutive summer, a member of Arizona’s incoming freshman class will compete on the international stage for USA Basketball. In 2013, Aaron Gordon earned tournament MVP honors while leading the U.S. to a gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Prague. Johnson and Gordon were teammates on the gold-medal-winning U.S. squad at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship. For the latest updates on Arizona men’s basketball and an inside look at the program, follow @APlayersProgram on Twitter and @uaplayersprogram on Instagram.
